5 Questions with Juhana Mäntymaa
1. Where were you/what did you do before working at Seriously?
Before working at Seriously, I worked at a smaller Finnish gaming company. There, I had the chance to work on PC simulation titles. Prior to that, I studied game development in the Tampere University of Applied Sciences in Finland.
2. What is your current role at Seriously?
I work as a game tester, ensuring that what we release is always the highest quality on the market. A typical work day consists of playing Best Fiends to find any issues or bugs within the game and reporting them to the development team so they can fix any problems and deliver the best possible product to our players.
3. What’s your favorite part about your job?
I love that my work is very self-driven and, as a game tester, I love that I have influence over many different aspects of the game itself, such as game design, graphics, and audio. Being able to release a high quality game that players enjoy is also very rewarding. But above all else, my colleagues have made Seriously one of the greatest places I’ve had the pleasure of working at.
4. Who is your favorite Fiend or Slug and why?
Beebert. He’s the nerdiest Fiend of them all, just like me.
5. When you are not working at Seriously or playing Best Fiends, what do you enjoy doing?
In my spare time, I play a lot of tabletop role-playing games, such as Dungeons & Dragons. I’m a GM (Game Master, a referee of sorts) for various different playgroups, as they play through the world and story I’ve created. I love most other kinds of games too, like Magic: The Gathering and various other console or PC games. But every life needs balance, so I also sing in an international choir here in Helsinki for a change of pace.
