5 Questions With…Tuomo Kälviäinen
5 Questions with Tuomo (Käly) Kälviäinen
1. Where were you/what did you do before working at Seriously?
I’ve always worked in video and animation content creation, and I started my career in broadcasting. As mobile became a media platform, I started working at Rovio where I focused on content creation for the community and the animated series, and supported some of the work on the Angry Birds Movie.
2. What is your current role at Seriously?
I work as a video producer and motion designer on our video team. We find ways to deliver all of the video content that Seriously puts out to the public. I’ve been focused on shaping the look and feel of our rather creative Best Fiends Youtube channel and its content. That’s been growing fast since we launched a video channel inside the game, and just crossed half-a-million subscribers. I’ve also worked on marketing materials for our performance marketing team, iterating off the data, which has helped produce some great results. Our team is based in Helsinki, and we work closely with the LA marketing team.
3. What’s your favorite part about your job?
I love the “get stuff done” attitude that is shared throughout the company. I get to work with extremely talented people who have a lot of creative freedom to produce content the best way they see fit. And on a more personal level, I enjoy the balancing between the tasks of producer and designer. When I’m able to switch my viewpoint often, it helps keep things fresh and keeps me motivated to do my best.
4. Who is your favorite Fiend or Slug and why?
Moose’s grumpy charm has always worked for me. Now he’s got a new job as a sheriff, which makes him even cooler…if that’s even possible.
5. When you are not working at Seriously or playing Best Fiends, what do you enjoy doing?
As a father of two young children, I’ve got my priorities set. My time that’s left over from raising and playing around with those “rascals” is precious, so with it I try to get to all the unread books by my bedside. Also, I’m still trying to catch up on all the new albums that came out last month. Plus there’s my very long video game backlog, and don’t even get me started on the amount of prestige TV shows and films that I’m supposed to watch at some point…
