5 Questions With…Miguel Francisco
5 Questions with Miguel Francisco
1. Where were you/what did you do before working at Seriously?
Before working at Seriously, I worked as lead character designer at Rovio. Prior to that, I worked for many years as a lead artist, storyboarder, and art director for video games, animation, advertising, and publishing houses in different countries throughout Europe.
2. What is your current role at Seriously?
I’m currently the character designer at Seriously, meaning I create every single Fiend and Slug you see in the game. I work on the different evolutions of each character and each expression! I also occasionally assist with character art in our animations, like Boot Camp.
3. What’s your favorite part about your job?
I love the moment when a new character begins to appear beneath my pencil, and I can see the lines flowing in the correct directions. Then I say to myself: “Man, this is a good one.” Sometimes that character goes to the game and other times it’s kept hidden in a folder and saved for later. But it’s always a pleasant surprise when I come back to that folder months later, and I see that character I created again. It’s almost like we make eye contact and say at the same time: “We know this is a good one.”
4. Who is your favorite Fiend or Slug and why?
Since I design all of them, I can’t choose a favorite Fiend or Slug. But if I had to pick, I’d say Thorn, the Rhino Beetle is one of the Fiends I like most; he’s a funny guy. (Thorn isn’t in Best Fiends yet… but we can’t wait for you to meet him!)
5. When you are not working at Seriously or playing Best Fiends, what do you enjoy doing?
I’m constantly packing up my suitcase and heading to new places. I love traveling and enjoying my free time with my son. And when I have some free time during my free time, I like working on my comic books, illustrations, and painting huge pictures.
