5 Questions With… Jere Lahtonen
5 Questions with Jere Lahtonen
1. Where were you/what did you do before working at Seriously?
Before entering the games industry, I worked as a social counsellor for the city. Playing all sorts of games had always been a big part of my life, so transitioning to game development was a no-brainer. I started my journey in this field as a video game quality assurance tester at Frozenbyte and eventually moved to Seriously.
2. What is your current role at Seriously?
I work as a junior game tester for our newest Best Fiends game, which will be available soon. My job is to look at new and existing features in the game and ensure they’re up to snuff and won’t impede our users’ enjoyment. This is done by executing testing documentation, creatively trying to introduce unexpected situations into the game, and communicating thoroughly with my amazing co-workers.
3. What’s your favorite part about your job?
Quality assurance requires a lot of independent thought and creativity. Looking at a feature from every possible angle, verifying that the base functionality works as intended, and then trying to break said functionality by all means necessary is a great exercise for the mind.
4. Who is your favorite Fiend or Slug and why?
Definitely Kwincy, because that Fiend has such an inspirational backstory! That and his quirky personality and goofy look brighten my day.
5. When you are not working at Seriously or playing Best Fiends, what do you enjoy doing?
Naturally, a big chunk of my free time is spent playing games, whether that’s video games, board games or tabletop roleplaying games. If I’m not in the mood to game for some reason, you can usually find me reading a book, doing some creative writing or walking about in the forest.
