5 Questions With…Athina Giokarini
5 Questions with Athina Giokarini
1. Where were you/what did you do before working at Seriously?
I have a background in both games and architecture and have participated in small indie and academic projects in Greece and elsewhere around the globe. Before becoming a “Seriouslian” I was working towards a master’s degree in Game Design and Production at Aalto University in Finland.
2. What is your current role at Seriously?
I’m a Junior Level Designer working with the Best Fiends team. This means that I get to create awesome content for the game, including levels, gameplay elements, and occasionally Fiend abilities. We have created more than 2,000 unique levels for the game so far, but crafting each one of them is a challenge of its own. The level design team collaborates closely with programmers, artists, testers, and the support team in order to create the best possible experience for our players.
3. What’s your favorite part about your job?
I love creating clever puzzles and developing fun, unique interactions. It’s a way to connect with our players on a personal level and provide them with a fair and fun challenge. I love the creative process behind every new feature that we add to the game. It requires thought, but also a lot of playfulness and experimentation. At the end of the day, seeing our work resonate with our players is the most rewarding part of my job.
4. Who is your favorite Fiend or Slug and why?
Sir Gordon. He is a true knight in shining armor. He just looks adorable and has a no-nonsense attitude about everything. His Fiend Power is also pretty useful, which is why I love to use him in the game.
5. When you are not working at Seriously or playing Best Fiends, what do you enjoy doing?
I love games — whether I’m playing them or making them. Game Jams are a great way for me express creativity in short bursts of time and test all kinds of crazy ideas. I try to participate in as many as possible every year. In the meantime, I play board games, role-playing games, and digital games of all kinds. I also enjoy painting miniatures, reading, and crocheting.
