5 Questions With…Amanda Tilot
5 Questions with Amanda Tilot
1. Where were you/what did you do before working at Seriously?
Before joining the data team at Seriously, I worked in human genetics research as a postdoc. I studied the genetics behind why some people see colors when listening to music (a phenomenon called synesthesia). It involved a lot of experimental design and uncovering patterns in large amounts of genetic data, which is not too different from what I do now at Seriously!
2. What is your current role at Seriously?
I’m a data scientist. When someone has a question about how a change in the game might impact players’ experience, it’s my job to track down the answer. That means I need to be able to find the right data to answer their question, run the analysis, and provide the results in a clear and helpful way.
3. What’s your favorite part about your job?
I love data visualization! A good picture can communicate so much faster than words. There’s an art to making graphs, which makes it a rewarding part of the work. A bad graph can be confusing or even misleading, so I try hard to make sure that doesn’t happen.
4. Who is your favorite Fiend or Slug and why?
Howie’s pretty cute, and as a scientist, I appreciate a wizardly scholar!
5. When you are not working at Seriously or playing Best Fiends, what do you enjoy doing?
On the weekends I love to read, play video games, and chase after my toddler. Tracking down tasty bites around LA is also a favorite pastime!
